Breath Of The Wild Sequel Coming Because Eiji Aonuma’s Team Had “Too Many DLC Ideas”

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma spoke with Kotaku about who’s making the Link’s Awakening remake and how his team decided to make the Breath of the Wild sequel.

In an interview with Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma gave a number of insights into both the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel and the Link’s Awakening remake. The chat gave a few interesting insights into how Aonuma creates games and a few new details about both titles.

The first thing we learned in the talk is that Aonuma’s team is concentrated fully on BOTW2. Thus, the team at Grezzo is working as the lead developers on Link’s Awakening. Grezzo is the studio behind both the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask remakes for the 3DS. Both of those games standout as incredible remakes of classic games, so this one appears to be in good hands.

Aunoma also said that if Chamber Dungeon mode was successful, they would consider the much-requested Zelda Maker for the future. So, if that’s something you want (and you absolutely do) please go buy as many copies of Link’s Awakening as your wallet can handle.

The famed producer also spoke to Nintendo’s work culture. He said that the company tries to focus on flexibility. This way staff can more easily maintain a work-life balance. Aunoma claimed that this focus led to no one feeling “exerted or anything like that” during the development of Breath of the Wild.

Speaking of BOTW, Aonuma revealed that his team simply had so many ideas for DLC that they decided to just “start from scratch” and develop a new game. It’s interesting news to hear because it makes it seem like the game is fairly far along in development. Maybe we won’t have to wait too long before getting the Breath of the Wild sequel in our hands?

Make sure to go give the full interview a read. It’s full of intriguing new info.
